Welcome to the Independence Police Foundation!
On a mission to build a safe city and strong community.
Over the past few months, a group of Independence community stakeholders joined together in their common goal to support our community and local Independence, MO police officers. Through their efforts, the Independence Police Foundation was established as a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to supporting the City of Independence, Missouri Police Department.
Under the leadership of Executive Director and former Independence Police Chief, Gary George and an esteemed Board of Directors, the Foundation solicits private donations and grant funding to support additional training, technology, and equipment needs, as well as assistance for department members and their families facing economic hardships due to death, disability, critical illness or other catastrophic events.
The Independence Police Foundation is already making an incredible impact in our community. Recently the Foundation donated $10,000 to Officer Wagstaff for a 9-week adaptive training program in Dallas, Texas. Officer Wagstaff was critically injured in March of 2017 after being shot in the head in the line of duty and has endured a long road to recovery.
The Foundation’s board learned that the Wagstaff family was trying to raise money on a gofundme page. The board wanted to ensure Officer Wagstaff would be able to attend this program to continue his rehabilitation and make progress toward his goal of standing unassisted and walking with assistive devices. This Foundation’s support has made this goal within reach.
This is just one example of how the Independence Police Foundation is able to use private donations to provide critical support in our community. As Chief of the Independence Police Department and on behalf of our officers and staff, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for this showing of support. Independence is a community with a big heart and a city we are proud to serve and protect.
